EcoGreen66 vs Competition - Ball Roll Tests
TargaPro - The Clear Choice for Synthetic Turf Fields
TargaPro's EcoGreen66™ synthetic field turf is clearly the turf of choice when it comes to finding a synthetic turf which actually mimics natural grass. As the test results below clearly show this is undoubtedly the best artificial soccer turf because it is the one surface that most closely mimics the ball roll and ball bounce of natural grass. The following demonstration of ball roll will show that this claim is not your typical marketing hype. In fact, these empirical results come about, not by accident, but by the application of TargaPro's unique, industry leading, engineering and material-science know-how, applied to the surface design process.
Correct Synthetic Turf Design Criteria
TargaPro started by establishing the correct design criteria — to mimic the performance characteristics of natural grass as closely as possible, while maximizing the durability and safety benefits of artificial turf.
These criteria resulted in a design concept and philosophy that is at variance with everyone else in the industry. I guess you can say, TargaPro is the only one in the parade that is instep. Here's why --
If you're trying to mimic natural grass, you have to look at the way a natural grass field is designed. When you build a natural grass field, you try to make the grass as dense as possible, in order to separate the athlete from the growing medium (the dirt) -- because the dirt is not bound and, therefore, unstable, inconsistent and unpredictable as to performance.
The same MUST be true with any replicated grassTM (our version of artificial turf). We design the turf to be as dense as possible (three times the tuft-density of the most popular product), with fully one inch of grass exposed above the infill. In this way, we completely separate the athlete from the unbound infill. In other words, the infill (the dirt of an artificial turf system) IS NOT a part of the running surface. Only with such a Mother-Nature-provided design can you mimic the consistent footing of a thick natural turf — with no visible infill and NO FLY-OUT!
Inappropriate Synthetic Turf Design
Our competitors rely on an inappropriate system design, (which they have managed to sell to the industry at large) which incorporates the infill as part of the running surface. But, it should be obvious, that a surface that relies on unbound infill (the artificial dirt of our competitors products) for performance, is doomed to both instability and inconsistency, and as such it is impossible to predict its performance characteristics.
For soccer, ball-speed is an all-important performance characteristic. The old, obsolete artificial turfs, such as Astroturf™, were horrible surfaces on which to play soccer, simply because they were more like outdoor carpet and the ball would roll too fast for the players to keep-up with. Our competitors' current infilled-turfs are certainly better, but still much too fast, because their improper design does not provide enough resistance to ball-roll. That is, not enough blade-density; and not enough grass above the infill.
Ball Roll Test Results
The following ball-roll test comparisons clearly demonstrate that EcoGreen66 has the blade-density and exposure to reduce ball-roll and, therefore provide a ball-speed comparable to the performance level of natural grass-- earning the EcoGreen66™ synthetic turf product, what FIFA would consider a 2-star rating*. You will also see demonstrated here -- that no competitor even comes close to providing a surface that mimics a natural grass surface.
The following chart is a summary of the TSI testing results taken on currently installed fields. Results are shown in both meters - and feet - of ball-roll distance.
TargaPro EcoGreen66™ ....... 6.76 meters (22.18 ft.)
Natural Grass ........................ 7.09 meters (23.26 ft.)
SprinTurf (honeycomb) …….. 11.21 meters (36.78 ft.)
SprinTurf (UltrabladeTm) ........ 10.31 meters (33.83 ft.)FieldTurf (monofilament).......... 9.15 meters (30.02 ft.)
FieldTurf Pro Series................12.54 meters (41.12 ft.)
*Note – These tests were performed using the testing protocols established through FIFA, by an independent, STC certified testing laboratory, not certified by FIFA. The test methodology is the same and results shown meet the criteria FIFA has established to achieve a 2-Star rating; however, since the testing was not performed at a FIFA sanctioned laboratory, no official recognition by FIFA is claimed or sought.
