Recycling Synthetic Turf Fields
How is the company addressing the recycling of synthetic turf materials?
TargaPro addresses recycling concerns surrounding synthetic turf fields from two specific angles, the nature and characteristics of the infill materials and the composition of all materials used.
First, TargaPro utilizes the latest, cutting edge technology to eliminate ground crumb rubber and sand infill materials - materials which are not readily recyclable. Organite(tm), the infill used in conjunction with our TargaPro EcoGreen66(tm) turf is an all-natural proprietary composite of organic and inorganic materials, which provides an environmentally-friendly, biologically safe alternative to recycled tire rubber and/or silica sand, as an infill for the artificial turf.
Second, it is critical that all materials used in the manufactured synthetic turf product which constitutes the basis of the fields be recyclable. To this end we ensure that the turf fibers as well as all backing materials which are delivered in the final product meet the goal of 100% recuclability.
The State of California has already recognized these disposal issues with respect to product decomposition and has recently passed Propostion 65, (www.oehha.org/prop65.html) which states that, no field built before 2008 can be disposed of in their own state.
TargaPro's EcoGreen66(tm) is TOTALLY (100%) recyclable from the multi-layer turf backing to the polypropylene synthetic turf fibers, to the Organite(tm) infill which establishes that this turf field system can be viewed as “Greener Than Grass(tm)” and hence belays the concerns of even the most ardent of environmentalists.
